Fish below Ripogenus Dam for wild salmon and brook trout on the world famous West Branch of the Penobscot River.

Anglers will fish a variety of ways from nymphing, to swinging streamers and soft hackles (wet flies) and of course dries.

The fishing season opens April 1 and continues through September 30th.

Spring season fishing begins to heat up shortly after ice out as the smelt run begins. This tends to be an unpredictable time but casting streamers can elicit aggressive strikes from big salmon.

Towards the middle to end of May, the insect activity begins to get consistent which generates more opportunities for casting dries. Throughout the summer and fall seasons, terrestrials become too irresistible for hungry salmon and brook trout.

The scenery and distant views of Katahdin are awesome!

A West Branch walk/wade adventure is a half or full day of fishing for one or two anglers.
